Hello! We are the Beech class and our teacher is called Mr. Pope.  We have a teaching assistant called Mr. Mann and a cleric called Mrs. Roache.

Historical Stories; Stories from imaginary lands – linked to Active Planet topic; Creating setting and atmosphere; Using expressive language to engage the reader; Using paragraphs to create stages in a story; Features of newspaper articles; Features of recounts; Poetry –inspired by earthquakes and volcanoes.

 

Mathematics
Number system and ordering numbers; place value and continuing sequences; calculation strategies using all 4 operations; solving word problems and  properties of 2D and 3D shapes; representing data and interpreting data presented in different ways.

 

Science
Solids, liquids and gases and their properties; heating, cooling and reversible change; mixing materials and observing changes and reactions; separating mixtures of materials; investigations, predictions and drawing conclusions.

 

History
Historical volcanic eruptions; Pompeii and everyday life at the time of the eruption; how we know about the past; evidence and artefacts from the past; Black history day.

 

Geography
Identifying locations of earthquakes and volcanoes and how environment is affected; how people in he locality are affected; map work and use of research sources; correct vocabulary when describing volcanoes and earthquakes.

 

Design Technology
Levers and mechanisms; designing and making an information book with moving parts about volcanoes and earthquakes; evaluating finished products.

 

Physical Education
Gymnastics – movements and travelling in symmetrical and asymmetrical ways; invasion games- ball skills and passing, tactics and small sided games; net wall games- striking a ball for accuracy; dance- movements to represent volcanic eruptions.

 

French
Greetings; Days of the week, months of the year and seasons; The weather; Numbers to 30; Colours.

 

ICT
Research using an internet search engine and recording information about earthquakes and volcanoes; Using a database or the internet to answer straightforward questions;  Using Cut, Copy and Paste to move text and images; Importing images from the internet and digital camera.
