Hello! We are the Cedar class and our teacher is called Miss. Collier. We have two teaching assistants. One is called Mrs. Murphy and the others is called Mrs. Litchfield. We have a cleric called Mrs. Pedley.
Below is an overview of what we will be learning about this term.
Literacy
Children will be encouraged to develop their speaking and listening through telling stories.
Children will be creating pieces of writing based on drama and speaking and listening activities.
Children will be learning about different form of writing. They will be focusing on lists and poems. The will be creating senses poems linked to their science work.
Numeracy
Children will be working on their understanding of number facts and using them to help them with additions and subtractions.
Children will be learning about shapes and their features.
Children will be doing some work involving length and weight.
Phonics
Children will be working with letters and sounds to develop their knowledge and understanding.
Science
Ourselves- children will be learning about their development from when they were babies. They will identify what they can do now and what they could not do before.
Materials- children will be learning about different materials, their properties and uses.
They will carry out experiments as part of ‘Ourselves’ and ‘Materials’.
Geography
Children will identify what different toys might be found around the world. They will be learning about maps and traditional toys from other countries.
History
Children will be looking at toys from the past and the present and making comparisons. They will specifically be looking at how teddy bears have changed throughout history and Victorian toys.
DT
Children will design and make a bath toy. They will be focusing on what material will be best for the purpose.
ICT
Children will be developing their understanding of computers. They will use ICT programs to support their learning in Literacy and Numeracy. They will use programs to create a fantasy environment for their bath toy to live in and learn how to program a toy to follow simple instructions.
PE
Children will be exploring different types of movements and creating dance sequences to music. In gym they will learn how to safely use apparatus and how to make different body shapes.
Art
Children will be focusing on the visual elements of line, tone and colour in drawings and paintings.
RE
Children will be learning about the different groups they belong to: family, friends and religion . Children will also be learning that there are different religions, in particular Christianity, Judaism and Islam.
Music
Children will be learning about pitch and volume. They will be singing and using different musical instruments to explore how to make different sounds.
PSHE
Children will be learning about different values as part of a whole school project. They will also learn how to express their opinions and listen to others.
Thinking skills
Children will learn the key hats and use these to help organise their thoughts.
